Short Field Landing
- Set full flaps
- Establish 60 knots
- Adjust glide angle with power to clear obstacle and land in first part of runway.
- Establish 54 knots
- Enter flare
- Bring power idle
- Touch down on main wheels, apply max braking
- Flaps up
Short field takeoff
Short Field Technique – Check your POH!
Flaps 10°
Use entire runway – don’t follow the lead line
Stop and hold brakes
Apply full power – Mixture Rich (unless >3000’)
Check static RPM [POH] / gauges green
Full power static RPM: C172 – 2300-2400, C152 – 2280-2380
Release brakes
Use slight back pressure during roll
Rotate at published speed
C172 – 51 KIAS, C152 – 50 KIAS
Climb at published speed until clear of obstacle
C172 – 56 KIAS, C152 – 54 KIAS
Accelerate to VY, retract flaps as scheduled
